I LOVE THIS!!
Dr. Drake had too many disappointments in his life to care about a wife. He saw Jane as beautiful and thought that’s what mattered. He was awkward and sometimes selfish. But he loved his profession as a Doctor. He felt good helping people. In his studies of Jane, he saw that she was happy. Happier than most of the rich woman he was surrounded by. That interested him. She was different somehow. He thought marriage was entirely up to chance anyway. He felt good about her like he felt good when helping to relieve his patients and that was good enough for him. His parents lacked emotion and warmth and so did he, to an extent.
